■ Stream Analysis of Next Generation Video Coding Standard HEVC
Mizuho Information & Research (Cross Media Zone #8005) will display and provide in-booth demonstrations of its HEVC Stream Analyzer, a tool for analyzing next-generation HEVC bitstream as a new answer for imaging solutions.

On October 16, Mizuho announced the development of an HEVC assessment tool called the 'HEVC Stream Analyzer', which consists of software that assesses the characteristics of the signal (stream) as it has been compressed and encoded under the HEVC protocol. Data analysis is displayed in a graphical interface format, where block size of thumbnail (minified image) and compressed data, image motion and other data can be viewed together in a single window, allowing for a high efficiency means to verify multiple data employing minimal manipulation.
Use of this Analyzer tool in research & development as well as product development of HEVC video equipment and software should lead to enhanced coding quality and reduced development time. Mizuho plans to make the Analyzer tool available to the public by the time the HEVC is finalized as the international standard during the first half of 2013.

HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) is the next generation video compression technology that has been under development by the ISO/IEC (International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission) and ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector). Since it doubles the data compression ratio compared to H.264/AVC, resulting in files half the size, HEVC is expected to see application in network-based high definition television as well as motion picture viewing on mobile terminals.
