At Inter BEE2010, Fujitsu exhibited the IP-9560 real-time video transmission unit mounting a codec that supports H.264/AVC 1080/60p for ultra-high definition Super Hi-Vision video transmission at a resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels, which is 16 times the resolution of Hi-Vision.

The IP-9560 real-time video transmission unit mounting a codec for Super Hi-Vision video transmission is based on the IP-9500 H.264/AVC real-time video transmission unit and is an H.264 encrypted unit that supports the 1080/60p format developed jointly with NHK. It handles 1080/60p HD-SDI input and DVB-ASI output.

One of the presenters explained that this IP-9560 "eliminates the need that conventional units have to process video signals split in two in the time direction, so it has double the compression efficiency, greater efficiency of inter-frame forecast processing, etc., and thus greatly improves encrypted video quality and improves the quality of the system as a whole".

For Super Hi-Vision video transmission, signals from a Super Hi-Vision camera via a converter are output as eight 1080/60p HD-SI outputs and the HD-SDI signals are input to the eight IP-9560s, the signals are encoded in each codec unit as 1080/60p H.264/AV, synchronized among the eight codec units, and transmitted through DVB-ASI. According to the presenter, "conventionally, handling Super Hi-Vision video required sixteen codec units, but by making the system smaller, it is now possible to achieve this with eight units".

Fujitsu is currently developing an H.264/AVC codec supporting 4:2:2 10-bit 1080/60p . The presenter explained "plans are to develop codec units for Super Hi-Vision video transmission systems using this codec LSI".
