Glimmerglass Intelligent Optical System for Video Applications

Ms. Alice Kung

Ms. Alice Kung
Asia Business Development Director, Glimmerglass Networks
[Abstract]
Glimmerglass was founded in 2000. The company is a world leader in the management of optical signals and ultra-high bandwidth fiber networks. The company has been awarded 41 patents in 12 countries and has numerous industry-leading customers worldwide. Glimmerglass is headquartered in Silicon Valley, USA.
New high-definition digital production and distribution standards are requiring video producers and broadcasters around the world to upgrade their facilities to support 4K and 8K video. Traditional coax based media network technologies no longer adequately support these new high-speed video standards. The Glimmerglass Intelligent Optical Switch (IOS) is a proven high-speed (up to 400G) optical switching platform that enables the production, switching, distribution, and multicast of 4K or 8K high-definition video. The IOS is a pure optical switch so data rate and protocol independent. As video speeds increase above 8K and protocols change, producers and broadcasters can rely on the IOS to handle these new signals without any hardware upgrade. When video production and distribution move from traditional coax to high capacity optical fiber, the IOS becomes a cost effective, flexible, reliable, and future proof solution to switch and distribute video signals.
